THE entry for competitions for the 62nd Perth All-Scotland Accordion & Fiddle Festival opens today (Monday 1 August).
A major occasion in the national music calendar, the festival incorporates the official Scottish Accordion Championships for traditional music alongside fiddle competitions and a range of individual and group sections covering a variety of musical styles.
In past years, the festival has seen hundreds of participants converge on Perth from all over the UK.
This year’s festival will again centre around the Salutation Hotel in Perth and nearby halls, starting with a welcome ceilidh on the evening of Friday 28 October.
A full day of competitions will take place on Saturday 29 October.
Festival chair, Peter Bruce, said: “The Perth All-Scotland Accordion & Fiddle Festival is justly renowned as the leading traditional music event of its kind in Scotland.
“It may be in its 62nd year, but I know that every year the committee is amazed by the exceptional standards of musicianship on display at the competitions.
“I’m sure this year will prove to be no exception and would encourage all traditional accordion and fiddle players to register their entry now to put their talent to the test against the leading exponents in the field.”
Performances by renowned top class professional musicians and informal sessions will also take place throughout the day. Saturday afternoon will see the grand finale, featuring the results of the Senior Scottish Championship and performances by some of the nation’s leading musicians and the final dance will take place on Saturday evening, hosted by Perth and District Accordion and Fiddle Club.
Tickets for the Friday evening ceilidh and the festival itself are on sale now.
