IT might be conspicuous by its absence elsewhere in the city, but summer has come to Metropolitan cocktail bar and restaurant in Merchant Square, in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, with the introduction of a special summer set bar menu.
Offering two courses at £7.95, or three courses at £9.95, Metropolitan’s summer set bar menu is available Sunday to Thursday.
The delicious menu offers starters of: soup of the day served with homemade bread; smoked mackerel pate, pickled gherkins, light salad served with wholemeal toast; sweet cherry tomato and fresh buffalo mozzarella bruschetta with basil pesto and beef nachos with sour cream, chilli salsa and guacamole.
The mains include: chef’s salad of the day; beef burger served in a toasted bap with hand cut Maris Piper chips and fresh salad; fresh breaded haddock with hand cut Maris Piper chips, tartar sauce, mixed salad leaves and lemon and Arborio risotto with mascarpone, wild mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and wild rocket.
Meanwhile, the sweets are: lemon cheesecake; sticky toffee pudding with ice cream; mojito iced lollipop and a selection of dairy ice cream.
In addition to the summer set bar menu, Metropolitan also offers a full bar menu and a pre-theatre menu available on the restaurant balcony, daily from 5pm – 7pm at two courses for £11.95 or three courses for £14.95.
Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes. Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
