FIFE chef, food writer and consultant, Christopher Trotter, has been inaugurated as Fife Food Ambassador by Keith Winter, head of Fife Council’s Enterprise & Protective Services.
In this role, Christopher will highlight the first class food product which Fife offers and support the promotion of Fife as a destination of choice to live, work, visit and invest.
The Fife Ambassador programme brings together individuals who make a significant contribution to Fife – socially, culturally and economically – and who can raise awareness of the region on the international stage.
Fife Ambassadors represent the live, work (study), visit and invest themes across key sectors of the Fife economy.
Christopher is passionate about seasonal fresh food and believes there is no better larder than Fife for home-grown, home-produced fresh fruit, meat and vegetables.
His food consultancy, Momentum, takes him all over Scotland advising food businesses.
The author of four cookery books, Christopher organises food-based festivals and food demonstrations, and is a regular contributor to BBC Radio Scotland’s Kitchen Café.
One of the highlights of this year’s Bruce Festival (August, 26-28) will be a medieval banquet that Christopher is organising and which promises to be a showcase for Fife’s food produce.
He is also part of a delegation heading to France for the official return-signing ceremony (Friday, 1-3 July) to celebrate the twinning of Cupar and the Howe of Fife with Sainte Menehould and its surrounding villages in the Champagne-Ardenne region of north east France.
Christopher sees the twinning ceremony as a perfect opportunity to promote Fife and its abundant locally-sourced food. He said: “I used to boast that Fife had everything from meat to shellfish, and fruit to vegetables, everything except cheese.
“Happily, a few years ago, Jane Stewart filled that gap when she began producing her Anster farmhouse cheese.
“In terms of great cooking, Fife is easily able to compete with the big cities as we boast two Michelin-starred restaurants – Bruce Sangster in Elie, and Geoffrey Smeddle’s The Peat Inn.
“It is an honour to be an Ambassador for such rich quality, originality and diversity. I hope that, through the work I do, I can help raise awareness of Fife and its food to new heights.”
Keith Winter, head of Fife Council’s Enterprise & Protective Services, said: “Fife’s Ambassadors perform an extremely valuable function as Fife works hard to raise awareness and promote its unique features and benefits to national and international audiences.
“I saw Christopher in action at the recent VisitScotland Expo where Fife had a presence for the first time.
“His cookery demonstrations highlighted his passion for working with ingredients grown, produced and sourced locally in Fife.
“It is inspiring to watch Christopher in action and hear his enthusiasm when he talks about Fife and its rich and varied produce.
“Christopher will make an excellent Food Ambassador and we look forward to working with him as we continue to establish Fife as a location of choice and great place to live, work, visit and invest.”
