FIFE Outdoor Access Festival, which will run from Saturday 3rd – Sunday 11th September, has today announced an extensive programme of over 70 outdoor events for outdoor fans.
The festival, which has been designed to celebrate Fife’s great outdoors and promote the access message through offering a wide range of events covering everything from walking to cycling, and rambling for the disabled to horse riding, is now in its fourth year and continues to grow.
This year, organisers are staging two major family events which they are hoping will attract even more participants to take advantage of the stunning outdoor landscapes that Fife has to offer.
Launching with a new event, Turn Back Time @ Tentsmuir on Saturday 3rd September, visitors to Tentsmuir Forest near St Andrews can be guaranteed a great day out with a wide range of outdoor access activities on offer which take full advantage of the forest’s historical past.
With a World War II theme running through this event, visitors can enjoy Forest tea dances, lindy-hopping lessons as well as guided historical walks, cycling events and much more.
On Saturday 10th September, the focus will move to another family event Come & Try @ Lochore Meadows which will have almost 40 different sessions on offer from cycling to kata-kanuing, and sailing to bushcraft.
Other events in the programme include horse-riding, cycling, guided walks and sea kayaking.
The festival is run jointly by Fife Coast & Countryside Trust and Fife Access Forum and the events are run by a wide range of commercial and public sector organisations, including Fife Council Outdoor Education Team, Ramblers Scotland, Forth and Tay Disabled Ramblers, and the British Horse Society.
Despite challenging circumstances in obtaining funding, the festival has been successful in securing funding from a wide variety of sources to enable it to proceed which include Fife Council, Scottish Natural Heritage, and Forestry Commission Scotland’s International Year of the Forests Fund.
