MUSSELBURGH Racecourse chiefs have hailed 2011 Ladies Day as their most successful to date.
An estimated 8,200 crowd – the course’s largest modern-day attendance – flocked to the East Lothian track in what was its sixth successive sell out on Ladies Day.
The June fixture has become one of Scotland’s most popular race meetings and this year sold out in record time.
Musselburgh Racecourse general manager, Bill Farnsworth, said: “It was our largest crowd and we are delighted at the continued success of Ladies Day.
“We put on more seated and picnic areas this year and there was more bar and marquee facilities which gives race goers the chance to spread out a bit when there is a capacity crowd.
“There was a great atmosphere about the place and it seems this event just grows each year in popularity, but we won’t be resting on our laurels and will be reviewing what we can do better going forward.”
The winner of the Queen of Style competition for the best dressed lady and a £3,000 prize sponsored by Jenners was won by Claire Thomson of Duddingston, Edinburgh.
Musselburgh is back racing on Monday evening (June 27) when gates open at 5pm and first race is at 6.55pm.
