‘Making Fife the Easiest Place to Do Business’ was the key aim of the Fife Economy Conference 2011 which took place at the Carnegie Conference Centre, Dunfermline this morning ( Wednesday 22 June).
This year’s main economic event in Fife saw private companies and the public sector come together to examine the challenges faced by businesses.
Organised by the Fife Economy Partnership the event also identified practical ways of overcoming these challenges to help to make Fife an easier place to do business.
Speaking at the event, Fraser Phillips, chair of the Fife Economy Partnership, said: ”This conference has given the partnership a chance to hear what people think the outstanding barriers and challenges are for businesses in Fife.
“This is crucial to how, in the future, we support both local businesses and those looking to move into Fife.
“How well we do this will influence the success of both the national and local economies and is critical to our overall economic recovery.”
Councillor Tony Martin, strategic chair: Environment, Enterprise & Transportation Committee, said: “The event was an important platform for business leaders, policymakers and politicians to discuss issues that affect them.
“The knowledge gained and the networks made today will contribute heavily to the business outcomes of the future in Fife.”
Professor Russel Griggs OBE, talked about what the Scottish and UK Governments are doing to improve efficiency and reduce red tape.
Delegates also heard from Lady Susan Rice, managing director of Lloyds Banking Group Scotland and Mike Salter, chair of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce.
