THE Paisley Pirates ice hockey team are challenging people to have a go at scoring a goal against their top netminder.
And you won’t have to go near an ice rink to take up the challenge, as it’s all happening during Barshaw Gala Day, in Paisley, on Saturday, June 18 from noon to 4pm.
Pirates’ goalie, Leigh McHatton, will be between the pipes stopping tennis balls instead of pucks being fired at him.
For a donation to Pirates funds, the ice hockey club will provide the sticks and tennis balls for anyone to have three shots at netminder McHatton.
There will also be scaled-down sticks for youngsters to take part in the fun contest, at Barshaw Park.
Anyone who scores one goal will get a certificate that reads ‘I Scored A Goal Against The Pirates’ and if they score three goals, they’ll win a free ticket to one of next season’s Pirates Scottish National League matches played at Braehead Arena.
Pirates coach Ian Turley said: “We’re very keen to get out into the community as the Paisley Pirates are traditionally the ice hockey club for Paisley and Renfrewshire.
“It will be great fun trying to beat our netminder who is one of the top goalies in the Scottish National League. He’ll be padded up in full ice hockey gear – minus his ice skates, of course!
“Other Pirates players will be coming along to the Gala Day, so there will be plenty opportunity for fans to get autographs and have their photograph taken with the players.”
