Tuesday 3rd July, £35 per ticket including four beers, 7pm ‘NOW REST’ – 10-12 Bonnington Road
MULTI, award-winning chef, Paul Wedgwood, will leave his posh restaurant in Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, on Tuesday 3rd July, to take part in this month’s Burgher Burger event in a ‘retro. greasy spoon café’.
Paul’s restaurant, Wedgwood the Restaurant, at 267 Canongate, has been voted Restaurant of the Year for two years running, by the Scottish Licensed Trade News.
Paul is no stranger to demonstrating his talents, having just finished at Royal Highland Show last week presenting his unique style of preparation and menus, Barbados Celtic Festival the week before where he presented a special dinner for guests at Wendy Kidd’s Plantation House Holders, and Number 1’s Girls Day out with Peter Andre last month.
Burgher Burger is the brainchild of event managers, Aoife Behan and Carol Soutar, who were fed up of not getting the kind of burgers they would like to eat.
Creating a new dining club in February of this year, Burgher Burger sees well-known chefs attempt to create the perfect three-course burger meal across Scotland’s capital city.
There are no vegetarian alternatives, and this is guerilla dining, with established chefs, popping up in greasy spoon establishments across Edinburgh.
Aoife says: “All of our events have sold out in ten minutes…we have about 2000 people on our mailing list and potentially 42 seats at every event. It’s really taken off. It’s all about Scottish produce, Scottish beer, keeping it local, about quality…about having fun and a good night out.”
Paul just loves burgers and he also loves “deconstructing traditional menus…”
His menu for 3rd July at NOW REST looks something like this:
Starter: West coast shellfish ice cream sundae
Main: Water buffalo and Black pudding burger, foragers pesto, crispy rings
Dessert: Goats cheese semi freddo, balsamic onion marmalade sorbet
As always, four bottles of Scottish beer are included in the ticket price of £35.
Meat is provided by Puddledub Buffalo. Tickets for future events are available by signing up on line at www.burgherburger.co.uk
