Make time for Cake Time with John Lewis Edinburgh and Shelter Scotland

JOHN Lewis Edinburgh is gearing up to indulge in a cake-fest with their customers to raise money for Scotland’s leading housing and homelessness charity.

This Wednesday (23rd May) the national retailer, which also has shops in Glasgow and Aberdeen, is supporting Shelter Scotland’s annual Cake Time fundraising event which asks members of the public to give in to their sweet tooth for a good cause.

John Lewis is supporting Cake Time in its Place to Eat restaurants, and will also donate £20,000 to the charity. As well as donating money raised from cake sales, each store will also hold independent fundraising events with Partners (employees) and customers, with donations also going to Shelter Scotland.

Barry Blamire, managing director of John Lewis Edinburgh, said: “We’re celebrating Shelter Scotland Cake Time in the branch – eating cake is certainly a great way to raise money for such a worthwhile cause! We’re asking everyone in the community to host their own Cake Time party to help raise funds for Shelter Scotland.

“This is a fun and very tasty way to raise vital funds for charity. John Lewis is proud to support Cake Time and the exceptional work Shelter Scotland does to help tens of thousands of homeless and badly housed people across Scotland.

“We hope that our customers will join in and help us to raise money for a very worthy cause – and what better way to do it than with cake.”

The annual cake-fest has raised over £100,000 throughout the UK since it was launched and has gathered celebrity supporters from cake-lovers including Joanna Lumley, Sarah Beeny, Tamara Ecclestone and Fearne Cotton.

To support Cake Time 2012 Shelter Scotland is also urging home bakers to get their mixing bowls at the ready and host a cake-themed party at home, at work, or at school, while raising money for the charity.

Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to have the support of John Lewis for this year’s Cake Time and hope that customers will indulge their sweet tooth for a good cause. Every penny raised through Cake Time will support our services, providing housing advice and support to the thousands of families and individuals who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads.

“In the last year Shelter Scotland has helped more than 15,400 families and individuals to avoid eviction, repossession and possible homelessness. The generosity of John Lewis customers will allow us to reach many more people who need our help.”

In support of the charity’s work, John Lewis shops in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen are also making space for specialist Shelter Scotland housing experts to offer advice and guidance to anyone facing housing difficulties. Members of the public will have direct access to advisors who will be on hand to help with money and debt advice, as well as information about Shelter Scotland services across Scotland.
