YOU are invited to send a photographer / reporter / camera crew to a photocall / interview opportunity at Victoria Park, Aberfeldy, at 11:00 on Saturday 12 May 2012, for the opening of The Big Day, the flagship event of the week long Highland Perthshire Cycling Festival (4 – 13 May), by Graeme Obree, one of Scotland’s most successful speed cyclists.
What
‘The Flying Scotsman’ – Graeme Obree, together with local MSP, John Swinney, the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Employment and Sustainable Growth, will open the Big Day, a free cycle fun day, with a Watt Bike challenge.
Can you beat the big man’s time over a 500 metre distance? John Swinney is keen to ‘Challenge Graeme’, as is 16 year-old rider Lewis Summers from Aberfeldy, who competes in the Scottish Under 18 Downhill Circuit and had a third place finish at a recent race.
Organisers of the Festival are also looking forward to seeing The Clan mountain bike stunt team showing off their awesome skills as they jump over Graeme Obree on a mountain bike high jump that they will be using as part of their displays.
Emma Burtles, co-ordinator at Highland Perthshire Cycling, organisers of the Highland Perthshire Cycling Festival. will also be available for interviews about the Festival and the work of Highland Perthshire Cycling.
The Big Day is the flagship event of the week long Highland Perthshire Cycling Festival and is being staged between 11:00 and 16:00 at Victoria Park, Aberfeldy, on Saturday 12 May 2012, the day before the legendary Etape Caledonia Sportive.
The free cycle fun day aimed at locals and visitors; cyclists and non cyclists, has a packed programme of family focused activities that include awesome bike displays from The Clan stunt display team, a giant air bag to safely test jumping skills, open races, bikes to try, borrow and hire, funny bikes, cycling demonstrations, a cycle obstacle course, stalls, bouncy castles, cyclo cross, dress up your bike, music and food served all day.

The Highland Perthshire Cycling Festival has a diverse range of (mainly) free road and mountain bike events, aimed at cyclists of all ages and abilities, that will be staged across the region from Friday 4th to Sunday 13th of May. It has a busy roster of races, guided rides (with local enthusiasts both on and off road), skills sessions, workshops, women’s events, a schools programme, family fun days and cultural evens; all culminating in the legendary Etape Caledonia Sportive weekend.
