First specialist coffee brew bar opens in Edinburgh today with designer sandwiches from Wedgwood
EDINBURGH specialist coffee ‘brew bar’ opens today at noon at 25A Dundas Street.
‘French Press Coffee Company’ is the second business venture for Gail Thomson, a commercial interior designer, and her husband John. Gail (46) from Glasgow, who says: ”This new concept gives customers the chance to taste drip brews, new filter brews, and espresso based coffees, similar to the type of specialist coffee brew bars I have enjoyed in London.”
Also on the menu today are the first designer sandwiches from award winning chef proprietor Paul Wedgwood of Wedgwood the Restaurant on Edinburgh’s Canongate – his restaurant has won the Scottish Licensed Trade News Restaurant of the Year award for the last two years.
Paul is famous for foraging and including foraged wild greens in his menus in his fine dining establishment. And he includes this style of cuisine in the designer sandwiches that are on the French Press Coffee Company’s menu for its first few days of opening.
Chef, Paul, says: “Smoked salmon and scurvy grass, cured duck with pickled apple and sweet cicely and roast pepper with brie and Alexander pesto are all my choices on the designer sandwich menu today which uses a choice of eight different types of bread, at this new establishment.
“Gail’s company Purpose Design is behind the new interior in my restaurant Wedgwood the Restaurant, which was refurbished this winter. I am a big fan of foraging and love to use foraged wild foods in my recipes at the restaurant, and it makes sense to include these for customers here at this new coffee shop.”
French Press Coffee Company is open daily from 8am till 8pm on Thursdays, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and till 6pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Sunday. The shop tel number is 0131 556 4336.
