TWO individuals who have led or significantly influenced social change are being actively sought by one of Scotland’s leading charities.
Winning Scotland Foundation, an Edinburgh-based business-led charity committed to using sport to positively impact on the lives of young people, aims to build further on its sustained period of growth by identifying two non-executive directors to serve on a management board that includes some of Scotland’s leading business figures.
Applicants have until 30 April to apply.
Founded in 2005 by Sir Bill Gammell, chair of Cairn Energy plc, Winning Scotland Foundation has increasingly established effective partnerships with the likes of Scottish Government, sportscotland, local authorities, schools and the business community to develop and deliver innovative, long-term culture change programmes, including Champions in Schools, Positive Coaching Scotland and Work Out For Sport.
Alistair Gray, director of Renaissance & Company Ltd (also on the Foundation’s management board since 2005) and recently-appointed executive chair of the Foundation, revealed the type of individual the Foundation aims to attract: “We have ambitious plans for the Foundation and now wish to further strengthen our range of expertise on the management board.
“Fundamentally, we seek two individuals who are change makers.
“People with proven entrepreneurial instinct and perhaps a background in education, health or social enterprise, who are willing to effectively apply their expertise and natural leadership skills to help us make the Foundation’s vision a reality.
“We really believe there needs to be a step change in how sport and physical activity are used in the development and education of Scotland’s youth. At Winning Scotland Foundation, our role is to be a catalyst to encourage this positive cultural change – and to help alleviate the alarmingly high levels of youth drop out from physical activity.”
Applicants will be expected to contribute between five and ten days per annum to the non executive role that will require attendance at board meetings and a willingness to make an effective contribution to supporting strategic planning in areas such as fund raising, programme development and people development.
To be considered, applicants are required to prepare a résumé of 300 words explaining how he or she can add value to the board of the Foundation.
Winning Scotland Foundation’s influential management board includes Simon Thomson, chief executive, Cairn Energy PLC; Mark Little, managing director Scotland & Northern Ireland for Wealth Management at Barclays and Celia Tennant, head of Funds, Inspiring Scotland.
