SCOTS travel group, Barrhead Travel, has received a bronze standard at the national Travel Marketing Awards held at London’s Intercontinental Hotel.
The company, which employs 550 staff in 34 branches across Scotland and Northern Ireland, was up against global competition with other entrants including Disney cruises, lastminute.com and the Hilton Hotel Group.
Says a spokesperson: “Barrhead Travel was recognised for its recent high profile ‘bringing Barbados closer’ campaign which focused on highlighting the Caribbean island as a viable holiday destination for Scottish families.
“As a result of the campaign, which included TV, radio and press, the number of passengers travelling to Barbados with Barrhead Travel rose by more than 30 per cent last year.”
Sharon Munro, chief executive at Barrhead Travel, said: “We are over the moon to have our marketing campaign recognised on a national scale – particularly when up against such high profile brands.
“The team worked so hard to put together an innovative and memorable campaign and this is an ideal way to round off a job well done. I am immensely proud of their achievements and thrilled we have received this award.”
The nominations were judged by a panel of industry experts including Julia Kemp, sales director at Avis rent a car and Alex Incorvaja UK and Ireland director of the Malta Tourism Association.
Other winners on the night included Virgin Atlantic for best press advertisement campaign, British Airways for best use of direct marketing and Scyscanner for best use of mobile technology.
