THE National Theatre of Scotland is delighted to announce the venue and final performance details for Reasons to Dance.
The culmination of a seven month project, which has seen an embedded creative team engage with and collect stories from over 1,000 people from Falkirk and surrounding area, the Reasons to Dance show is a unique theatrical experience, running from Tuesday 27th to Saturday 31st March at Falkirk’s City Nightclub.
A press performance will take place on Wednesday 28th March.
Reasons to Dance invites audience members to immerse themselves in a world of Falkirk dancing memories from the last 100 years, as a large-scale community cast from a broad range of ages brings stories to life through movement, storytelling and dance, their performance enhanced by City’s state-of-the-art video, projection, sound and lighting systems.
Guests will meet a range of characters; the bandleaders and bouncers, the DJs and players, the lovers, the fighters, the weird and the wonderful.
On a journey through dance halls, school halls, bedrooms, cloakrooms and beyond, the audience will taste dancing triumph and disaster, learn the unwritten rules and routines of a night out, discover tips on dress, footwear and beauty across different eras, and maybe even pick up a few new moves…

ScottishPower continued its support of the National Theatre of Scotland through the sponsorship of three new community and education projects throughout 2010, 2011 and 2012: 99…100, Truant and Reasons to Dance.
99…100 was a major arts project that explored and celebrated the stories of Fife. The 99…100 team of artists and participants embedded themselves in Fife during 2010, seeking out local stories through a series of live arts events involving dance, music, performance, flashmobs, exhibitions, forest and beach walks, haircuts and football. The project culminated in a large scale theatre event at Silverburn Park, Leven, Fife, in November 2010.
Truant was a piece of theatre exploring modern parenting and the social consequences of rule-making and rule-breaking in Glasgow families. Set in Glasgow and inspired by its people, Truant was the result of interviews with a diverse range of people from communities across Glasgow exploring responses to questions about family values, the challenges of modern parenting and the place of children in society.
Reasons to Dance is a major new arts project taking place in Falkirk from September 2011 to March 2012. The project will explore why people dance, their memories of dancing and traditions associated with going out dancing. Reasons to Dance will combine true tales of dancing with drama, music and visual art in events across Falkirk.
