THIRTEEN might be your lucky number if you are among the journalists interested in using the next 13 days to compose a feature that may win Epilepsy Scotland’s Journalist of the Year award.
Deadline-driven writers have nearly a fortnight left to convey a newsworthy story about epilepsy that informs readers about this common but serious neurological condition.
This piece of work could earn a potential £500 prize, trophy and your accolade as Journalist of the Year.
Notable judges who will choose the most accurate and responsible article on any aspect of epilepsy published in the Scottish press include head of news and current affairs at BBC Scotland, John Boothman, mystery and adventure author Gordon Ferris, Secretary of the Scottish NUJ Paul Holleran and crime writer, Caro Ramsay.
Here’s your win-win chance to profile a worthwhile cause and do a lot of good by raising public awareness with the added bonus of submitting your entry for our award.

Notes to editor
* Entries must be published between 1 February 2011 and 31 January 2012 in newspapers and magazines principally serving the Scottish market. Any aspect of epilepsy can be covered. Individual journalists may submit more than one article about epilepsy. Entries will not be returned. It is important that all cuttings are original. Faxed copies are unacceptable.
* All entries should be mounted on A4 or A3 paper and include the name of the newspaper in which it was published and the date of publication. A separate A4 sheet listing the name, postal and email address and a contact telephone number for the journalist must accompany each entry. Entries should arrive by 5pm on Friday 17 February 2010. The address for entries is: Epilepsy Scotland, 48 Govan Road, Glasgow, G51 IJL. Epilepsy Scotland staff and board members are not eligible to enter. If a submission does not adhere to the competition rules, it will be subject to disqualification at the discretion of the judging panel.
* The winning journalist will receive £500 and a framed certificate. These will be presented during an award ceremony on Thursday 26 April 2012 at the Glasgow Grand Central Hotel where Epilepsy Scotland’s black tie gala dinner is being held.
