WATER quality engineering firm, Panton McLeod. will be on hand 24/7 over the Festive period to provide the UK water industry with an additional line of defence against emergency problems that may arise in the country’s drinking water supply.
While much of the UK takes a well-earned break for the next fortnight, engineers from Panton McLeod’s bases in the Scottish Borders and Nottingham will continue to be on standby over the Christmas and New Year period to deal with any SOS calls caused by the icy winter conditions.
The firm specialises in cleaning, inspecting and repairing drinking water storage structures – including huge underground tanks and huge towers – which hold millions of litres of drinking water for households throughout the country. Under its emergency standby service, Panton McLeod will be on hand to inspect, clean and repair facilities affected by the cold weather, as well as dealing with any contamination issues experienced by major UK utility companies.
In addition to manual cleaning and repair work, the firm will also have use its innovative underwater robotic division to respond to any emergencies – providing a further back up to some of the country’s biggest water companies to ensure supplies are not disrupted over the festive period.
Iain Weir, chief operating officer with Panton McLeod, said: “Because of the nature of our work in the UK water industry, we cannot relax or shut down over the Christmas holidays. We have staff on standby 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year as part of our Emergency Response service.
“The nightmare scenario for any water company is if something goes wrong over a national holiday such as the Christmas and New Year period. Many people are at home during this time of year and relying on their water supplies for their Christmas dinners, so an emergency can potentially have disastrous effects for hundreds of thousands of households across the country.
“However, we will be available throughout the whole of the festive season and will be ready to deal with any issues that may arise, providing rapid services and advice to utilities organisations across the UK water sector.”
Panton McLeod regularly responds to incidents where major water structures have been contaminated or affected by floods and need to be cleaned or repaired quickly. It is also able to remove diesel or oil contamination from water storage facilities with its PM88 cleaning chemicals.
In previous years, the firm has also provided rapid cleaning after emergencies such as cryptosporidium outbreaks, so its team of engineering experts are well experienced to deal with incidents that can occur during the extreme winter conditions.
Iain adds: “As well as providing our services on the ground, we are also available to give advice to any water companies in order to help them decide the best strategy for dealing with emergencies.
“With a high level of expertise to draw upon, we are confident we will be able to manage any incidents that arise over the festive period, and ensure that people across the whole of the UK are able to enjoy fresh water supplies throughout Christmas and the New Year.”
Panton McLeod is the UK’s leading water quality engineering company and provides high profile cleaning and inspection work across the UK, in addition to pipeline and repairs services for many of the country’s major utility companies including Severn Trent Water and Scottish Water.
The firm’s general office number 01835 822835 will be covered 24 hours a day, seven days a week 365 days a year including the Christmas and New Year period. More information can be found at the website www.pantonmcleod.co.uk.
