Media Release: A Taste of Fife at BBC Good Food Show

FIFE will be showcasing the rich quality, originality and diversity of its home grown produce at this year’s BBC Good Food Show.

Starting on Friday, 21 October and running until Sunday, 23 October, at the SECC in Glasgow, this prestigious event celebrates the best of Scottish food and drink.

Fife will be well represented by Vivien Collie, director of Fife Food Network and ;eader of Slow Food Fife, and Christopher Trotter, Fife’s Food Ambassador.

Both will be involved with the Slow Food UK stand.

The Fife Food Network promotes good quality food and drink experiences in Fife and beyond by developing links between local food and the area’s heritage, environment, economy and people.

Vivien is a champion for locally sourced produce and knows that food plays a huge part in Fife’s visitor experience: “Good quality, fresh, local food can enhance a holiday or a visit and is an important factor in choosing where to go.

“Fife recognises this and has an abundance of farmers’ markets and farm shops selling fresh, seasonal, locally-sourced produce.

“The BBC Good Food Show is the perfect platform to show off, and raise awareness of, Fife’s outstanding food product.

“With two Michelin-starred restaurants topping a long list of outstanding places to eat, Fife really does present an excellent, year-round visitor destination.”

Fife Food Ambassador, Christopher Trotter, will be cooking pheasant and demonstrating the wide variety of Fife produce.

Jane Stewart from St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company will be there with her award-winning Anster cheeses.

Fletchers of Auchtermuchty and their seriously good venison are at Stand SF12, while Woodmill Shootings join the new Producers Bursary Award Pavilion with their delicious salamis.

Kirkcaldy’s The Just Slate Company will present a selection of their bespoke slate tableware, and Christopher’s son, Byam, can be found in the Farmers’ Market area with his Trotter’s independent condiments.

Christopher has a passion for working with ingredients grown, produced and sourced locally in Fife: “I believe there is no better larder than Fife for home-grown, home-produced fresh fruit, meat and vegetables and the BBC Good Food Show is an ideal opportunity to promote a taste of Fife.

“As Fife Food Ambassador I am always looking for the chance to praise Fife’s food and I can personally recommend Fletchers excellent free range venison, Jane Stewart’s traditional creamy white, crumbly Anster cheese, and Steve Wade’s Woodmill salamis made from roe deer and pheasant.”

Christopher is a regular contributor to BBC Radio Scotland’s Kitchen Café and, if you can’t make it to Glasgow, he’ll be recording a special Good Food Show programme which can be heard on Sunday, 23 October at 3.00pm or on Wednesday, 26 October at 1.15pm on BBC Radio Scotland.
