SO many people are coming to Toastmasters International (TI) to improve their leadership and presentation skills that a third Edinburgh branch is to be opened on Monday, 16 April 2012, called Haymarket Toastmasters.
Eu Jin Teh, area governor of TI for central Scotland, says: “Most people find public speaking daunting, but Toastmasters International’s well proven education programme and evaluation systems allow us to offer highly-effective training in a supportive and encouraging environment.
“Each evening generates a lot of fun, and the meetings are structured to offer everyone a chance to speak.
“The TI training leads to a range of basic and advanced qualifications that are recognised across 116 countries. It’s also very cost-effective because it is run in self-help groups.
“The new club joins the existing two Toastmaster International (TI) clubs in Edinburgh: to increase the choice of evenings available to access Toastmasters’ training and qualifications in public speaking and leadership skills.”
Haymarket Toastmasters meets every second Monday evening from 16th April at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start at Scots Guard, 2 Clifton Terrace, EH12 5DR Edinburgh.
Capital Communicators meet every second Tuesday at 28 Great King Street, Edinburgh.
Waverley Communicators meets every second Thursday in the Central Library on George IVth Bridge, Edinburgh.
All the Edinburgh TI clubs offer a free three-meeting trial deal.
TI is a not-for-profit organisation and is very cost-effective: two hours fortnightly training and public speaking practice for less than £100 a year (collected half-yearly) per Edinburgh club* plus an one-off joining fee of £20 to cover registration and initial training manuals from Toastmasters International.
Some members join more than one club to accelerate progress.
Eu Jin Teh points out: “Toastmasters is one of the world’s largest public speaking and leadership training organisation with over 13,000 clubs throughout the world and once you join TI, you can attend any meeting of TI anywhere as a guest so it’s a great way to network in new cities and countries.”
Toastmasters members in Edinburgh span every walk of life from students, tradespeople, professionals, academics and entrepreneurs to retirees.
*TI club fees vary to reflect differences in meeting and running costs.
