THE charity, Shelter Scotland, had crowds laughing out loud at a sell-out show at the Edinburgh Fringe which raised £1,300 for its housing and homelessness campaign.
Comedy stars – including Josie Long, Robert Ince and Perrier Award winner Daniel Kitson – performed an one-off show in aid of the charity in front of a sell-out crowd, some of whom had gained entry to the exclusive show by tweeting their favourite one and two-liners during the charity’s month-long LOLfest social media campaign.
The jokes entered during the competition were performed on the night and voted for by the audience, with Ezmie McCutcheon crowned the winner at Summerhall. Her winning joke – What did the cheese say to itself in the mirror? Answer: Ha-llou-mi – had the crowd roaring with laughter.

“Increasing numbers of households facing daily problems with housing and homelessness is no joke. This comedy event however was the perfect antidote.
“We had some fantastic entries during the LOLfest campaign on Twitter. Ezmie McCutcheon’s joke was a crowd favourite and worthy winner on the night.
“We thank all the performers and venue organisers for giving up their time to help raise funds for Shelter Scotland.
“All moneys raised will help us in our work to provide expert support services, online advice and a free national helpline for everyone facing housing and homelessness difficulties.”
Comedian, Josie Long, said:
“This was a fantastic show for a great cause. I was over the moon to be asked to perform.
“Shelter Scotland’s work makes a real difference to the lives of people experiencing housing and homelessness issues and I was pleased to be able to do my bit. This has been one of my festival highlights.”
