VIRTUOUS Scots are leading the way in the lunchtime revolution, after a study commissioned by Nairn’s Oatcakes revealed today (Thursday 28th July) that 60 per cent of office workers take a lunch break during the working week – the highest in the UK.
Says a spokesperson: “In contrast, only 50 per cent of their London colleagues manage to fit in a break during the working week.
“Living up to stereotypes, penny-pinching Scots are tightening their belts and making their own lunch at home then bringing it into the office.
“Although Scots are going against the grain by taking a break, the average working lunch break across the nation is only 25.9 minutes and is often served with a side of work, with office workers feeling uninspired and stuck in a rut as lunch becomes just another action to tick off the to-do list.
“The survey investigated the lunch habits of the UK and their attitudes towards the daily lunch break across the working week.
“Nairn’s Oatcakes is on a mission to naturally energise the working lunch and inject some inspiration into the lost lunch hour offering tips on how to balance a busy lifestyle with a daily, nutritious yet exciting lunch routine with recipes and topping ideas.”
Christine Bailey, workplace nutritionist said: “Many people don’t realise the health benefits of taking time out at lunch.
“With heavy work schedules, many of us choose to power through lunch, which can result in the ‘crash and burn’ effect by mid-afternoon.
“Many people don’t realise the benefits of oats, and how their slow release energy help you get the most out of your day.
“Oatcakes provide a versatile yet delicious lunch, with exciting and simple toppings that don’t compromise on taste.
“It would highly benefit productivity if we left our desks and enjoyed home prepared lunches in a different environment.
“Choosing a healthy and balanced lunch will sustain your hunger, and the slow release energy in Nairn’s Oatcakes will leave you feeling revitalised and energised.”
