Media Release: Water industry experts agree new deal with Scottish Water

WATER quality engineering, firm Panton McLeod, has agreed a new deal with utility giant, Scottish Water, to clean and inspect water storage structures across the country for the next three years.

Following a thorough procurement process, the Borders-based firm was selected as the single supplier for all tank cleaning and inspections in Scotland until 2014 as part of Scottish Water’s ongoing Price and Supply Framework.

The deal, which is expected to be worth a seven-figure sum for Panton McLeod, will also build on the important work that the firm has provided for Scottish Water over the past decade – including providing repairs, cleaning and inspection services for some of the Scotland’s biggest water storage facilities.

Iain Weir, managing director at Panton McLeod, said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as the single supplier for all tank cleaning and inspection work in Scotland and look forward to continuing to serve Scottish Water over the coming years.

“We’ve worked extensively in the past with Scottish Water and have provided important services for them at many of the country’s strategic water storage facilities. Our work has included cleaning and disinfecting facilities right across the country, ranging in capacity from small water storage tanks to huge underground reservoirs the size of Murrayfield stadium, so we are very pleased to be continuing this important work under the new deal.

“Scottish Water continues to make concerted efforts to ensure that water quality standards across the country remain at their highest level, so it is a great endorsement of our expertise that they have chosen us as the single supplier for all cleaning and inspection services.

“Our technology and expertise will provide them with a cost-effective, efficient and environmentally-friendly way of performing this routine work across Scotland.”

Under the agreement, Panton McLeod will provide a range of services for Scottish Water, including traditional drain-down cleaning and inspections. The firm will also be utilising its innovative environmentally-friendly robots – the VR600 and ROV units – to inspect and clean some service reservoirs while they are still on-line, ensuring that customers do not face any disruption to their water supplies.

The machines are remotely operated and fitted with cameras and lighting equipment, which allows staff controlling the sub to assess the interior of the tanks without having to drain the facilities first. They are also used solely within clean potable water environments and meticulously tested, cleaned and disinfected prior to every use to ensure they can be safely used in the public water supply.

In addition to its work north of the Border with Scottish Water, Panton McLeod also provides services to some of the biggest companies in the UK water sector – including Severn Trent Water and United Utilities.

As one of the best-known names in the water industry, the firm has provided high profile repairs, inspections and cleaning services at strategic service reservoirs and storage facilities across the whole of the UK.

Panton McLeod operates countrywide from its headquarters in Newton St Boswells in the Scottish Borders and an operational base in Nottingham. The firm also has a U.S. base in Denver, Colorado, which is the hub for its North American division Panton McLeod Americas – an international branch of the business that is currently revolutionising the way water storage structures are inspected, cleaned, de-biofouled and disinfected across the USA.
