ACCORDING to recent reports, the uptake of non-branded cheap tablets has skyrocketed from 567,000 units to nearly two million during the last quarter of 2010 and the first of 2011, with China leading the way.
Says a spokesperson for Simplifydigital: “Display Search, an analyst company, said that this not only signalled a 235 per cent growth in the sales figures but also highlighted the fact that the world’s interest in tablets has increased dramatically over the last few months.”

“The study shows that tablets have become very popular among customers and the fact that the uptake of the cheaper products has risen simply stresses the market’s reaction to the current economic climate, thus providing the consumer with a cost-effective solution to further the sales.
“Granted, the cheaper end of the tablet market will not provide perfect performance, therefore increasing the possibility for the consumer to come back and consider purchasing an expensive handset based on quality rather than price.”
