NHS Lothian’s Parkinson’s Specialist Nurses are hosting an information afternoon on Saturday 28 May, 1-4pm at George Heriot’s School in Edinburgh.
The main aim of the event is to meet people living with Parkinson’s who are not aware of the nurse service.
The Parkinson’s Nurses will be available to give more information on the types of help and support which are available to people with Parkinson’s.
The event is being held in partnership with Parkinson’s UK Edinburgh Branch, Young Parkinson’s Network and East and West Lothian Support Groups will also be available to provide information and advice.
Says a spokesperson: “Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition affecting around 120,000 people in the UK. People with Parkinson’s do not have enough of a chemical called dopamine in the brain.
“The main symptoms of Parkinson’s are tremor, rigidity and slowness of movement. Being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease can be a daunting experience, and often people do not have access to the information and support they need.”
Alison Stewart, lead Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist, NHS Lothian, said: “We are here to offer both our patients and their families the support and help that they need, and to give them advice when they need it. There is a whole range of support available and we can make sure you are able to access it.”
