ALEX Salmond may be celebrating a historic night but, according to the bookies, he still has a way to go before convincing the people of Scotland to vote for independence – according to Scottish bookmakers, McBookie.com.
The firm is offering odds of 3/1 that Scots would vote yes in any planned independence referendum. No, is the odds-on favourite, at 2/9.
Paul Petrie, McBookie.com spokesperson, commented: “The Scottish people may have voted for Alex Salmond last night but we still don’t think he would win a referendum.
“Having said that, the odds this time last year were 25/1, so there is no denying Independence is very much on the agenda following this election.”
