ALMOST 300 people attended an annual lunch event this week in aid of a local cancer support charity.
CLAN Cancer Support hosted its lunch at the Marcliffe Hotel on Wednesday (April 20) and raised £12,500 for the charity.
The charity received a welcome boost ahead of this year’s event when BP stepped in to sponsor the entire event, ensuring that every penny from ticket sales and donations at the event went directly to CLAN.
As well as enjoying a two course lunch, guests also had the opportunity to indulge in some shopping, with stalls from JJ Gifts and Regali Bags and Gifts. There was also a selection of CLAN items on sale.
Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN Cancer Support, was delighted with how this year’s event went.
She said: “The annual CLAN lunch is one of our biggest fundraisers and we are delighted that once again, the event was very well supported.
“It costs around £120,000 per month to provide the vital support services based in CLAN House and our outreach centres, meaning crucial fundraising has to continue over and above the commitment to our new purpose built centre.
“Thanks to the generous support that BP has shown by sponsoring the event, every penny of the £12,500 raised will go directly to CLAN.
“As well as thanking BP for its support, we would also like to extend our thanks to everyone who attended the event and I am sure everyone had such a good time that they will be signing up for next year’s event as soon as possible.”
