ST John’s Shopping Centre is calling on members of the Perthshire public to help them with deciding which projects should receive funding in the first round of their Community Chest fund.
The fund has received 11 applications from a wide variety of community projects, requesting a total of £5,010 in the first of three funding rounds.
The shopping centre has pledged £5,000 to give to community projects over the course of this year.
Voting opened on Friday 1st April with all projects posted on the shopping centre’s Facebook page.
Local citizens can read about the individual project and vote for who they think should get the funding, which will be taken into account in the judges’ final decision.
Community Chest launched in February and has been designed to be accessible and offer small funding opportunities for those local community groups and projects who may find lottery grant systems too time onerous or who may be looking for smaller amounts of money to make their projects come to life.
All of the applicants have been contacted and encouraged to spread the word to as many people as possible to ensure their application has the best chance.
Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager, commented: “We are delighted with this response from Perthshire clubs and organizations and there is a real variety of applications for the public to select from.
“We’d encourage everyone to go on and look at the projects and cast their vote – it’s a great way to find out what’s going on in your local area and support local groups at the same time. There are quite a number of applicants so every vote counts.”
