FIFE will be attending this year’s VisitScotland Expo, for the very first time.
Held on Wednesday 13, and Thursday 14, April at the AECC, Aberdeen, the Fife stand will offer a flavour of Fife with a range of produce and activities guaranteed to please all appetites.
Organised by VisitScotland, Expo is recognised as Scotland’s only flagship business to business event for the travel trade that is entirely Scottish.
VisitScotland Expo offers an excellent opportunity for Fife to showcase its tourist products and services to potential buyers from around the world.
While it maybe well known as the home of golf, Fife has a lot more to offer and Expo is its chance to shine in an international spotlight.
A number of Fife’s tourist businesses will make up the Welcome to Fife stand, including:
• Best of Scotland Holidays, based in Markinch, who tailor-make leisure and golf holidays
• Knockhill Racing Circuit – Scotland’s only FIA motorsport venue
• Keavil House Hotel, who offer luxury in a country house setting just outside Dunfermline
• Fife Coast & Countryside Trust will tempt buyers with Fife’s fantastic scenery and over 100 miles of coastal path
• Blown Away, the award winning land yachting company based in St Andrews
• Morton Golf and Scotland Golf Tours who will create bespoke itineraries
• St Andrews Golf Company with demonstrations of hand-crafting hickory shaft clubs
Fife chefs – including Christopher Trotter, Momentum Food consultant; Will Docker of Balgove Larder; and Jane Stewart of St Andrews Cheese Co. – will be on the stand providing a flavour of Fife as they demonstrate a selection of tasty treats.
Knockhill Racing Circuit, near Dunfermline, is Scotland’s only FIA motorsport venue. It guarantees the ultimate driving experience over a two kilometre demanding circuit. The inaugural appearance of a very classy chassis, the Knockhill McStig, will encourage buyers to the Fife stand to see a Formula First single seater racing car.
Doug Clement will be on the stand to interest buyers in the new Kingsbarns Distillery which is due to open next year. Doug and his team plan to take distilling back to its artisan roots and offer tours of the distillery and its operation within the ancient walls of East Newhall Farm steading on Cambo Estate.
There will also be an opportunity for visitors to the stand to find out about, and get information on, the different tourist areas which make up Fife including Dunfermline and West Fife, Kirkcaldy, Cupar and the Howe of Fife, Levenmouth, and St Andrews.
Fife enjoyed recent marketing success at the World Travel Market in November when it was the only Scottish region to be part of VisitScotland’s stand.
The Promoting Fife team took advantage of a captive worldwide audience of buyers, industry insiders and international trade professionals to build new contacts to augment the Fife Tourism Partnership and support Fife’s tourism industry.
Fife’s inaugural attendance at Expo in April will build on this success.
Says a spokesperson: “Tourism is a hugely important sector for Fife, contributing over £260 million annually to the economy and supporting almost 12,000 jobs.
“The Fife Tourism Partnership, launched in March last year, identifies the strategic priorities for tourism in Fife.
“The Fife Tourism Strategy 2010-2020, recently endorsed by the Environment, Enterprise and Transportation Committee, sets out the plan for Fife to be a first-class tourist destination by 2010.
“Promoting Fife complements and supports the work and aspirations of the partnership in positioning Fife as a great place to visit.”
Keith Winter, Head of Development Services, Fife Council said: “Promoting Fife works together to link the many parts of Fife.
“Expo is an exciting opportunity to promote Fife as part of the Scotland wide offering. Steeped in medieval history and heritage, Fife can also boast the most award winning beaches in Scotland, with one of the finest coastal pathways in the UK.
“Our stand and partners are ready to take advantage of Expo to highlight the outstanding holiday destination which Fife offers visitors.”
