YESTERDAY, the Stevenson College Edinburgh basketball team took part in the Scottish Colleges Sport National Finals at Aberdeen Sports Village, narrowly losing to Dundee College by just three points in their last game to finish the championship in second place.
Victories against Aberdeen, in February, and local rivals Telford College and Dundee last week, had ensured that Stevenson were still in contention for finishing champions.
A victory against Glasgow Central College meant that Stevenson College went into their final game, a rematch, against Dundee brimming with confidence.
However, luck conspired against them in the final and, after a very even match, they ended the game on the wrong end of the 50 – 53 score line.
Coach of Stevenson’s student basketball team – SCE student, Claire Gibb – said: “We were really pleased to have been so successful in our first season and I am so proud of my players and their achievements.
“We are disappointed to have lost but we will be back next year and hope to build on what has been a great season.”
