AN Aberdeen-based cancer support charity is looking for local people to pull on their walking shoes and take part in its Mother’s Day sponsored walk.
CLAN Cancer Support will host the event at Aberdeen’s Duthie Park on Sunday, April 03 from 10am to noon.
The event, which is open to participants of all ages and abilities, follows a 1km route around the park which can be lapped as many times as individuals choose.
CLAN Cancer Support first introduced the event last year after being inspired by Macduff woman Marjory Nicholson, who organised a Mother’s Day walk following the death of her son, Andy.
Susan Crighton, fundraising manager at CLAN, said: “After meeting Marjory, we were inspired to hold our own walk and give people who have lost loved ones the opportunity to remember them in an extra special way.
“Whether someone has lost a son, daughter, or mother, CLAN recognises that Mother’s Day is a significant day for many people. The Mother’s Day sponsored walk will give people the chance to get together and remember their loved ones in a special way.”
The Duthie Park walk will start at 10am and continue until midday. The cost of entering the walk is £5 per adult – children walk for free. Anyone who would like to take part can contact Duncan Charles, CLAN Cancer Support’s fundraising coordinator, on 01224 647000 for registration.
Sponsor forms will be issued to participants on receipt of registration forms.
CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which offers support to anyone affected by cancer. Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN is also developing services in the community and now has a presence in Ballater, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Orkney and Shetland.
