A £6MILLION contract awarded to the Aberdeen office of construction company Mansell – to refurbish the city’s Bon Accord shopping centre – has capped an exceptionally positive period for the firm’s Scottish division, which has secured work totalling in excess of £90 million in the past quarter.
The latest contract will see Mansell transform the exterior and interior look of the centre, including the roofing, external glazing and new entrances at both Schoolhill and George Street.
As part of the modernisation programme, the toilet facilities, flooring, pillars and furniture will also be refurbished to give a sleek and contemporary finish to the centre.
The award of the work rounds off a particularly strong period for Mansell’s Scottish offices in Aberdeen, Dundee, Elgin, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The company’s Central Belt offices have enjoyed particular success in the education sector recently, having been awarded a number of contracts – including for two new school builds in Ayr and Kilmarnock, and a project with the University of Glasgow – totaling a combined £20 million.
Mansell’s Tayside business unit has also played a key role in the Scottish division’s recent achievements, having secured a £6.7 million contract to deliver a new care home and supported housing facilities for Angus Council in Carnoustie, following the recent £24 million award for the construction of the new Dundee city centre swimming pool.
The Elgin office has also recently secured more than £4million worth of work in the defence and education sectors.
Mansell’s managing director in Scotland, George Hood, says he is delighted with the recent performance of the company’s Scottish division.
He said: “To have secured over £90 million worth of contracts is a tremendous achievement by our regional Scottish offices, particularly considering the still challenging economic climate we are operating in.
“It’s extremely pleasing to see us pick up work across several of our areas of specialism and we look forward to using these opportunities to further cement Mansell’s position as one of the leaders of the construction industry across the length and breadth of Scotland.”
