GLASGOW-based WEST brewery is celebrating after taking home the Best Family Friendly Restaurant award at last night’s (Monday 28 February) glittering Scottish Restaurant Awards bash.
The brewery, bar and restaurant – based in the iconic Templeton building on Glasgow Green – was voted Scotland’s top destination for a family dinner by a team of select industry experts at the Glasgow Science Centre awards ceremony.
Petra Wetzel, managing director of WEST, said: “Picking up the award for the Best Family Friendly Restaurant in the country is such a fantastic achievement and true testament to the team’s tremendous commitment to the business.
“It’s very important to us that WEST is a place where families can come together. As a native Bavarian the beer hall is a big part of our national culture, it’s a place where families traditionally congregate to eat, drink and relax together.
“I understand the importance of having somewhere that children are welcome and have things to do because I have a five-year-old son and he more than keeps me on my toes so I wanted to make sure that WEST is a top choice for families with children.
“Over the last five years, WEST has been transformed from nothing more than a dream into an award-winning brewery, bar and restaurant. It has taken a lot of hard work to get us to this stage but it has all been well worth the effort. We’re absolutely thrilled with the latest addition to our trophy cabinet.”
The award comes on the back of WEST’s recent run of honours which has included accolades for its Scottish lagers and wheat beers.
And the brewery’s spell of success doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. Wetzel added: “We are very much looking forward to growing the WEST brand further.
“Our best selling St Mungo lager is now available in some of the UK’s leading hotels and bars including Turnberry, The Scotsman Hotel and the Met Bar as well as national quality supermarket chain Waitrose.
“Our next step will be to expand our facilities in Scotland. We have secured investment to build a brewing centre of excellence in Glasgow which will take production to 50,000 HL per year – ten times what we can produce currently. The centre is on track to be fully operational in 2012 and will include a cafe, arts hub and visitors’ centre.”
