Media Release: Chinos and Cargo pants – for how you live, today

THE Chino has been redefined.

UNIQLO’s Chinos have been reimagined and recast to offer something for everyone.

UNIQLO has updated the silhouettes of this wardrobe staple to provide slimmer, smarter looks and a clean and chic Chino style.

The Chino collections for men and women are finished with authentic detailing, including metallic donut buttons and roll seams, and come in a number of styles: tapered, cropped, roll up and shorts.

Genuine vintage style fabrics have been used throughout to produce Chinos that are true to tradition making for a truly modern classic.

Likewise, the Cargo has been revisited.

UNIQLO’s men’s and women’s Cargo collection is sure to please with its wide range of choices, from slim-fit to boyfriend and more traditional relaxed silhouettes.

Additional features, such as pleated waists and tapered hems, have been added to update this utilitarian classic for women.

The latest addition to the Cargo collection is the on-trend skinny fit for women, featuring smaller pockets and a slimmer silhouette, designed to accentuate the legs and play down the hips. Using a stretch twill pre-washed fabric, the UNIQLO Cargo collection is presented in a variety of attractive shades, including dark green, brown, khaki and grey.

The UNIQLO Chino and Cargo campaign, introduced by Nicola Formichetti, UNIQLO fashion director:

How do UNIQLO’s new chinos and cargo pants differ from their conventional counterparts?

“Until now, the words ‘chinos and cargos’ conjured images of a comfortable, loose American casual style, worn for dressing down and characterised by a loose fit. The new UNIQLO chinos and cargo pants are updated and refined. They have a slim silhouette and clean style. When you select a pair that matches your figure and wear them in the correct size, I think you elevate chinos and cargos to an entirely new style. The new chinos and cargos, for example, can be worn with a white dress shirt and formal jacket. They can also be worn, not just with sneakers, but also with dress shoes. I think it’s a contemporary approach that you can dress up or down.”

Do you have any suggestions for how the new chinos and cargo pants should be worn and enjoyed?

“The most important thing is the fit. The silhouette should be slim, so that you can match with both casual or dressy items. I think that the new chinos and cargos have the potential to transform the way people think of casual wear. I think they may become the new standard bottoms. I recommend that everyone try the new chinos and cargo pants. They get better after they are worn in. In the warmer seasons, you can roll them up, accessorise them with belts, try the cropped ones as well. I want people to explore and enjoy themselves in wearing these bottoms. I too want to wear them in various and unique ways.”

UNIQLO is a subsidiary brand of Fast Retailing Co, a leading Japanese retail holding company that offers men’s and women’s clothing under a number of brands, and designs from various artists and designers.
