A COLD, damp and windy Sunday morning was the setting for the 22nd Tour of East Lothian (Audax) run by Musselburgh Roads Cycling Club in their first event of their commemorative 75th year in Scottish cycling.
Setting off from the clubrooms at the Old Town Hall in Musselburgh the challenging cycle route, covering a distance just over 65 miles, included Carberry, Pencaitland, East Saltoun, Gifford, Redstone Rig, Garvald, Stenton and Dunbar, returning to Musselburgh via Haddington and Longniddry.
The prestigeous calendar event attracted 170 entrants from as far afield as Morpeth, Glasgow and Kirriemuir, with a strong local entry from East Lothian making up the cast.
Says a spokesperson: “Many of the entrants were regular participants enjoying their first long run of the year and 139 intrepid riders set off from Musselburgh. Our luck held and the day turned out better than expected, with only some light rain but a fairly stiff breeze.
“One hundred and fourteen riders completed the course, including all the MRCC club riders who took part. Many participants, despite the weather, complimented the club for organising the annual event, which is an important date in their cycling year.
“The club (MRCC) would like to thank eveyone who took part, the event marshalls, local cafe owners for refreshment stops and club supporters who contributed to the success of the event and extend that thanks to motorists for their patience and care shown to cyclists during the event.”
