The UHI Centre for Rural Childhood, (CRC) at Perth College UHI in advancing its aim of improving the lives of children locally, nationally and internationally has been awarded £200,000 funding from the Oak Foundation.
Begins a spokesperson: “The support will allow the Centre to undertake a research and learning project in West Bengal, India.
“Titled ‘Protection against vulnerability: what works – the Indian experience’, the two-year venture will address some of the challenges surrounding the recovery and (re)integration into society of children and young people affected by sexual exploitation and trafficking in West Bengal.
“Beginning this month, the project will examine key areas such as vocational training and livelihood support for young people and their families; psychosocial and community-based support and knowledge surrounding the exploitation of boys.
“The Centre will work closely with researchers and practitioners based in India in order to influence future policy and practice in these fields.
|The project complements the current work of the Oak Fellow which is to develop and strengthen knowledge and learning on recovery and (re)integration globally for children affected by sexual exploitation and trafficking.”
Professor Rebecca Wallace, CRC director, said: “This grant award is an acknowledgement of the high calibre of work being carried out by Claire Cody, the Oak Fellow, and further enhances the international profile of the Centre for Rural Childhood at Perth College UHI.
“This study complements the current work of the Oak Fellow which is to develop and strengthen knowledge and learning on recovery and (re)integration globally for children affected by sexual exploitation and trafficking.”
