HRH The Princess Royal will be meeting with carers, volunteers and young carers when she visits The Princess Royal Trust Renfrewshire Carers Centre on Wednesday 26 January.
The centre moved to new premises at The Embroidery Mill in Paisley in April and the visit of The Princess Royal, who is President of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers (The Trust), will highlight the wide range of services on offer to Renfrewshire’s carers and young carers.
At the new Carers’ Centre, The Princess Royal will meet with Florence Burke, Director for Scotland of The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, Renfrewshire Carers Centre manager, Diane Goodman, and chair Margaret Nilsson.
Ms Goodman will introduce The Princess Royal to the centre’s staff and some of the 3,112 carers for whom the service provides vital help, support and encouragement.
Says a spokesperson: “Renfrewshire Carers Centre delivers quality services to unpaid carers, young and old. This includes providing essential information and advice, emotional support, advocacy, support groups, emergency and future planning, social activities and a helpline.
“The centre offers more than 14,000 hours of respite a year through its respite and befriending services and also runs a calendar of training and therapeutic services to encourage carers to look after themselves as well as their loved ones. This can include stress and time management, crisis and contingency planning, illness and condition-specific training.
“In addition, the centre runs a group for young carers aged from 8 to 25 years which gives children and young people the chance to have fun, take time out from caring and meet others in a similar situation.
“The centre works in partnership with the local authority, health board and other key partners to support carers in Renfrewshire.
“To commemorate the visit, The Princess Royal will unveil a plaque and will be presented with flowers by Shelley, 9, who cares for her mum.”
Ms Goodman said: “We are delighted that HRH The Princess Royal is opening our new premises at The Embroidery Mill. We want to reach as many carers as possible in Renfrewshire to let them know about the range of services we offer to support them in their caring role.”
