INTERNATIONAL welding company, Serimax, has completed a fabrication contract on Talisman Energy (UK) Ltd’s Fulmar A platform in the North Sea.
Begins a spokesperson: “Serimax provided welding services on the main 8” duplex production riser, two 8” J tubes and a 4” gas lift, which were positioned in a 30” caisson. The eight caisson sections were supplied in 12 metre sections to the platform and then lowered down through the drill floor.
“Welding and field joint coating of the four lines between each section was carried out, with the final operation being the closure weld of the new riser to the topside pipe work located at the cellar deck.
“Due to the close arrangement of the risers and J tubes, Serimax carried out a full mock-up trial in Aberdeen which allowed for welding, NDE, field joint coating times and safe working practices to be established prior to mobilisation.
“Serimax was able to maximise efficiency by training its own welders to apply the field joint coating which minimised the number of personnel who had to be mobilised to the platform.”
Serimax’s regional manager for North Europe, Kenny Spink, said: “While we have worked on Talisman projects in the past, this was the first time we have been contracted directly by the operator.
“The project was completed in just 17 days and our ability to provide welders with multi-tasking capabilities demonstrated our flexible approach which offers efficiency savings to the client.
“We hope the success of this project will lead to further riser fabrication work in addition to our core spoolbase activities at Evanton.”
