LAUNCHED this week, the site introduces a new level of interactivity for the Science Festival audience, giving users access to a range of functions designed to improve ease of use and provide access to a far richer vein of information and service.
Having clinched the contract earlier this year, Line were charged with producing a portal capable of inspiring, engaging and educating the event’s audience as part of an effort to increase bookings and drive significantly higher levels of registered customers.
“We’re particularly pleased with the way that phase one of this project has been realised. Having been given full creative and technical freedom we were determined to deliver something that not only looks great, but also introduces Science Festival patrons to a whole new level of usability and utility,” said Ross Laurie, managing director at Line Digital.
“The finished result is something we believe will really grab users, underlining the Edinburgh International Science Festival’s status as the pre-eminent event of its kind in the UK.”
Registered users of the site can now bookmark articles or event listings of interest and store them, creating flexible, highly personalised versions of the site that can be used as an ongoing resource. Designed to act as an information source about the Festival’s business offer to partners, prospective B2B partners and others working within the industry, the new service has also been created with teachers in mind, providing a permanent educational resource to be used in conjunction with the Science Festival’s schools touring programme Generation Science.
Line have also used perpetually changing page backgrounds to give the site a vibrant look and feel. Users who choose to register find that after logging in these backgrounds are subsequently related to the key interest areas they identified when signing up to the service.
Phase two of the development begins in January, when online bookings will be introduced to the site. To complete this process Line will partner with Red61 to provide the same robust ticketing backend that saw the agency’s work on the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s web-based box office break all previous sales records in 2010.
Fiona Logue, business director of Edinburgh International Science Festival, said: “Our existing and prospective audiences should be as delighted as we are with our new website. It allows the Science Festival to develop more meaningful, year round communications with our customers and they can interact more with us by building their own site. It looks fantastic and Line made the delivery process incredibly smooth.”
