FIFE’S tourism industry has enjoyed a successful November with the Kingdom stepping into the international spotlight.
Begins a spokesperson: “Fife recently partnered with VisitScotland at London’s premier global event for the travel industry.
“The World Travel Market presented a wide variety of destinations and industry sectors to UK and international travel professionals.
“The only Scottish region on the VisitScotland stand, Fife took full advantage of a captive worldwide audience of buyers, industry insiders and international trade professionals.
“Tourism contributes an estimated £267million to Fife’s economy and Fife’s presence at the World Travel Market is seen as a forerunner to attending the VisitScotland Expo in April 2011 where Fife can show off an unique visitor experience.
“The good news for Fife’s tourism continued last week with an anticipated increase in visitor numbers to St Andrews following the recent engagement of Prince William to Kate Middleton.
“The Royal romance has put Fife firmly onto the global map with St Andrews in the spotlight.
“However, the town is well used to coping with international attention following its successful hosting of this year’s Open Championship.”
Fife is, of course, renowned as the ‘home of golf’, so it seems fitting that the couple behind the St Andrews Golf Experience have won the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Frenchman, Raphael Métayer, and his Brazilian partner, Carina Neubert Favero, set up St Andrews Golf Experience in 2008 offering bespoke golf packages aimed at the European and the American markets.
Another Fife business duo won Young Tourism Entrepreneurs at the VisitScotland Scottish Thistle Awards which showcase business excellence and quality. Guy and Jamie McKenzie set up Blown Away Experiences, a land yachting company delivering beach based experiences for adrenaline junkies, based in St Andrews.
And at the recent Golf Tourism Scotland’s Gold Standard Awards, which celebrate the very best of Scottish golf tourism, Fife won an impressive seven awards out of the eleven categories.
Councillor Tony Martin, chair of Environment, Enterprise & Transportation Committee, commented: “It is encouraging to hear these good news stories particularly given the current economic climate. They are a boost to our economy and highlight Fife’s commitment to tourism which is a signficant industry sector for Fife.
“Fife’s tourism is, of course, supported by Fife Council’s Development Services through the work of the Fife Tourism Partnership which launched in March this year.
“Fife offers a fantastic visitor experience but we are competing in a global market and the Tourism Partnership is there to provide strategic and networking support to our tourism businesses.”
