THE first woman to be Moderator of the Church of Scotland has been chosen to be in a commission to carry out a wide ranging review into the future delivery of Scotland’s public services.
Dr Alison Elliot OBE was today named one of the members of the commission chaired by former Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) general secretary, Campbell Christie.
In 2004 Dr Elliot made history when she became the first woman to be nominated Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

Before becoming Moderator she served as convener of the Committee on Church and Nation from 1996 to 2000.
Dr Eliot also became highly involved in building ecumenical relations and was a member of the Central Committee of the Conference of European Churches from 2003 to 2009, as well as moderating at the Conference of European Churches in Lyon, in 2009.
Dr Elliot has also played a key role in Action of Churches Together in Scotland (ACTS).
Dr Elliot’s OBE was conferred upon her for her ecumenical work.
