Where: corner of Victoria Road and Allison St, Govanhill, Glasgow
When: Monday 8th November 2010; Time: 1pm
What: Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland and local politicians will sign a giant petition board for the charity’s Make Housing Matter campaign.
SHELTER Scotland will be campaigning in Glasgow’s Govanhill on Monday 8th November to raise the issue of housing and homelessness ahead of the Scottish budget and as part of its strategy to ‘Make Housing Matter’ in the run-up to next year’s national elections.
All local politicians have been invited to attend and put their names to the campaign by signing a giant petition board along with as many local people as possible.
Graeme Brown, director of Shelter Scotland, the housing and homelessness charity, says:
“The Make Housing Matter campaign aims to push housing to the top of the Scottish political agenda.
“The people of Govanhill are helping us show the Scottish Parliament and all politicians that the housing crisis cannot be ignored.
“Hundreds of people in Govanhill have already backed our campaign and share our demand that housing should play a central role in next year’s elections.
“The imminent Scottish budget represents a golden opportunity to stimulate economic growth and employment by investing in a national house-building programme.
|We, therefore, urge the Scottish Government to commit to a continued and viable programme of investment in housing.
“It is Shelter Scotland’s intention to ‘Make Housing Matter’, not only during the run up to the Scottish budget, but also in next year’s elections.”
