Media Release: Bauer Media Scotland scoops gold, silver and bronze at New York Radio Awards

BAUER Media Scotland has secured Gold, Silver and Bronze awards at the New York Festivals Radio Program and Promotion Awards.

The awards, which have been running for 53 years, recognise the world’s best work in radio broadcasting.

Bauer Media Scotland’s news and programming team at Clyde 1 scooped the Gold World Medal in the Best News Documentary/Special category for its Clyde 24 documentary about a day in the life of Scotland’s River Clyde.

Forth 1 secured the silver medal for its breakfast show, ‘Boogie in the Morning’, in the Best Music/Personality show category and the Radio Clyde news and programming team also secured two bronze medals in the Best Music Special category for the Paulo Nutini Story and the Best Special Event Category for T in the Park 2009.

The awards receive entries from radio stations, networks and independent producers from over 30 countries worldwide. International radio experts from stations and companies donated their time to the judging process. Judging panels were comprised of top level industry professionals from five continents and over 25 countries.

Lorraine Herbison, head of News and Sport at Radio Clyde, said: “This was a true team effort with news and programming involved. The team showed dedication and commitment in putting this documentary together, with segments often made in their own time, after the normal day’s work was done. This puts Radio Clyde News on the world stage and is further proof of our continued commitment to making exciting radio for our listeners.”

Duncan Leven, deputy programme director at Radio Clyde, said: “We are very proud to be in the winners circle at an awards ceremony as prestigious as this. We work hard at Radio Clyde to deliver great world class content to our local audiences and to be recognised for it is a fantastic feeling. Our continued efforts to be at the forefront of creative and informative programme making have been refuelled and our ambition is now set at a new level.”

A spokesperson for Bauer Media said: “Our teams are thrilled to be at the forefront of award winning radio. These awards highlight the commitment we have to our listeners in providing them with the best, high quality programming and information.”

Bauer Media’s Scottish radio stations reach 1.8m adults a week across Scotland, some 41 per cent of the population. Key to Bauer Media Scotland’s success is local brands, delivering local content and creating a local connection to our communities. Stations represent the areas they serve, reflecting the tone, feel and mood of each city and community.
