EDINBURGH residents and business owners have a chance to experience the lightning speed of the latest fibre optic broadband when BT’s super-fast broadband demonstration bus rolls into the city on October 1 and 2.
The arrival of the BT Infinity double-decker will give households and businesses the chance to see for themselves how super-fast broadband can transform their time online – and one lucky family can win free BT Infinity for 18 months!
The bus will be at the Asda superstore at Chesser from 10am-5pm on Friday, October 1 and the Gyle Shopping Centre from 10am-6pm on Saturday, October 2.
With download speeds of up to 40Mb/s and uploads of up to 10Mb/s, BT Infinity broadband provides a more powerful internet connection allowing multiple users to do more online at the same time.
During the bus visit BT will be searching for a Superfamily who can demonstrate that they use the internet as an integral part of their home life. The winning family will be presented with a free, 18-month subscription to BT Infinity.
Demos on board the bus will show how homes with multiple computers and internet devices enjoy the simultaneous use of services such as HD TV, gaming, social networking and the sharing of large files like photos or films.
Consumers will also benefit from high-quality streaming of popular video content from web sites like iPlayer and YouTube, as well as much faster music downloads and online games.
BT Scotland director, Brendan Dick, said: “Edinburgh is one of the first cities in the UK to benefit from BT’s fibre broadband, which is available now in parts of Stockbridge and the New Town, Corstorphine and Craiglockhart. We’ve launched this bus tour because we want to show local people the internet as they’ve never seen it before. As online services evolve, BT Infinity broadband will really make the difference in homes, particularly where there’s heavy demand for internet access!
“We are also urging businesses to come along and see how fibre-based broadband can help increase their productivity. BT Total Broadband Fibre gives businesses a dedicated broadband fast lane to run applications simultaneously, download e-mails and ftp files alongside VoIP, cloud computing and HD video conferencing. Home working is also better supported for business continuity.”
The new super-fast broadband service starts at £19.99 per month for home users while BT Business Total Broadband Fibre starts at £30 per month.
Residential customers who take a bundle of broadband and calls will be offered the chance to upgrade to BT Infinity for no extra monthly cost when fibre becomes available in their area. They will enjoy superfast speeds from just £7.49 a month for the first three months and then £17.99 a month. This compares with £28 a month (£15 for the first three months) for the 50Mb service from Virgin Media.
BT has announced plans to invest up to £2.5 billion in super-fast, fibre-based broadband, which could become available to around two-thirds of UK premises by 2015 subject to an acceptable environment for investment.
