Media Release: Double success for Glasgow designers

THERE was double success at last weeks Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) Regional Business Awards for Glasgow’s creative entrepreneurs.

Two young businesswomen, Diane Houston and Gillian Kyle, took first and second place.

First-placed was Houston, whose high-end luxury handmade-to-order lingerie brand, Gilda and Pearl, impressed the judges.

Houston operates a successful web-based retailer and sells on other lingerie websites including the market leader, Figleaves.

She has also begun selling to the European market.

Says a spokesperson: “Kyle’s humorous Scottish products including some distinctive Irn Bru illustrations, plain loaves and Tunnocks’ teacakes printed onto mugs, bags and tea towels. Her designs now feature in 80 per cent of tourist shops in Scotland.

“Both designers have received support from Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency (GSERA).”

David Hughes, their business advisor at GSERA, said: “This is a great achievement for both businesses.

“They both had an original idea at the right time. They had faith and belief in their idea and just went for it.

“Their determination has paid off. I’m very proud of their achievement and I look forward to seeing them go from strength to strength.”
