THE Institute for System Level Integration is set to host a two-day PIC Microcontroller Awareness seminar in conjunction with EDTC Technology Gateway on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th August 2010, to provide attendees with a fuller understanding of the technical information and advice in relation to their product ideas and product developments.
Day one will provide an introduction [using a development system the participant will take away with them] to PIC Microcontrollers, Microcontroller Architecture, Microcontroller Instruction Set, Assembly Language (including examples of control instructions and data manipulation) and an introduction to the PIC development platform; incorporating input and output ports, 32 button switches, 32 LED indicators, and four digit, seven segment display. Each delegate will participate in hands-on exercises on using the development platform provided. No previous experience is necessary.
Day two of the seminar will then focus attention on the development tool’s Analogue-to-Digital (ADC) control, timer control and interrupt control. This will also inlcude examples and exercises for BASIC Language programming and C Language programming.
This two-day awareness seminar is facilitated by EDTC Technology Gateway and costs £200 + VAT per person, which includes a FREE development tool for Microchip PIC Microcontrollers (valued at £125), which delegates can take away with them after the seminar. The fee also includes all refreshments and handouts.
Attendees will benefit from a technology mentoring service which delivers support to anyone involved in the design and development of new innovative products and or the evolution of existing products.

About EDTC Technology Gateway:
EDTC has been successfully providing results-driven advice and support for technology-related projects for over ten years. Our team of industry-experienced technology advisors can provide hands-on, and often, immediate expert advice tailored to your product development and within the context of your long term-term business objectives. Our focus is to help you achieve your aspirations and take your product ideas closer to market.
EDTC is a grant-funded organisation run out of Edinburgh Napier University and is funded by Scottish Government and ERDF. Based in Livingston, the services of the Centre cover the whole of Scotland from Orkney and Shetland Islands down to the Scottish Borders.
About iSLI:
iSLI sits at the critical interface between the academic and commercial engineering worlds. The Institute is focused on knowledge transfer in enabling technologies, our vision being to increase the value and extent of company engagements in high level R&D. We strive directly to bridge the research exploitation gap, encompassing Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs) 3 to 6, by engaging both industry and academia individually and in common projects.
The enabling technology, on which we focus, is applied across a very wide range of end applications, meaning we probably have the skills and technology to help in whatever business a client has needs.
Our approach is predicated on the belief that today’s adopters of ‘mundane technology’ will become the research-engaged companies of tomorrow.
The Institute is a unique academic collaborative venture of four of the UK’s leading universities: Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt, Glasgow and Strathclyde, and with links to the University of the West of Scotland and Lancaster University who bring key skills in the use of MEMS technology.
iSLI draws on the academic expertise of the university departments of computer science, electronic and electrical engineering and informatics to deliver leading edge research as well as first-class postgraduate lecturing.
