RUBY Wax, the American comedienne, will be a guest speaker at this year’s Women of the Year Luncheon and Awards, which takes place on Friday 15th October at the Hilton Metropole, adjacent to the NEC, Birmingham.
The American writer and actress made a name for herself as part of the alternative comedy scene in the 1980s, following a successful RSC stage career.
She has worked with some of Britain’s best-known writers, directors and actors – from Alan Rickman to Dawn French. Her television work and chat shows in particular have made Ruby Wax a household name.
In her inimitable style, the comedienne will entertain guests with a funny and thought provoking speech, drawing on her extraordinary personal story and career.
One of two guest speakers – the second being the very English pottery entrepreneur, Emma Bridgewater – Ruby Wax was invited to speak at this year’s Women of the Year event by one of the official sponsors, Jaguar.
Judy Groves, awards chair, said: “This fundraising event is a sell-out year on year, drawing together hundreds of high profile and talented women to celebrate and recognize success. Joining a stellar line up of entertainment for the 2010 awards, Ruby Wax’s personal story is not to be missed!”
