WITH more than 2,000 advance sales, and the weathermen predicting a glorious start to the weekend, Musselburgh Racecourse is bracing itself for one of its busiest nights of the year, tomorrow. (Frid May 21)
The East Lothian track hosts its first Rock ‘n’ Racing night in a season of meetings packed with summer entertainment designed to boost attendances.
Tomorrow’s meeting has a 70s and 80s theme with popular Radio Forth breakfast show host Boogie taking charge of the evening as MC, along with sidekick, DJ Dingo.
Boogie will compere proceedings in between live performances by six-piece funk and soul band, Groove Station, who will play throughout the evening.
Prize money totaling £40,000 is on offer over six races and the feature race is the £10,000 Rennies of Dunfermline handicap run over 1m 6 furlongs. First race is off at 6.40pm and gates open at 4.30pm.
Prizes for the best race-goers in 70s/80s fancy dress include bottles of champagne and race tickets for premier meetings later in the season.
Musselburgh Racecourse commercial manager, Sarah Montgomery, said: “Advance ticket sales are very healthy so we have our fingers crossed for a bumper weekend meeting.
“Our Rock ‘n’ Racing night is one of a number of themed race days we are holding and we hope to attract office workers and other parties looking for something different and entertaining to kick off their weekend.
“Boogie is one of our most popular local radio presenters, he always goes down well at Musselburgh and we look forward to welcoming him back. I am sure he will get really in to the spirit of the 70s-80s theme and will be at his flamboyant best.”
