What: Scotland’s Catriona Morrison, 2009 ETU Duathlon European champion and 2006 ITU Duathlon world champion, will be joined by Craig Dale and James Harrison, from the GE Great Britain Age Group Team, for a very unusual training session on Calton Hill, Edinburgh; to mark the three-month count down to the 2010 GE Edinburgh ITU Duathlon World Championships to be staged in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh, 03 – 05 September.
Event: Using exercise equipment normally associated with an indoor gym, Catriona Morrison, who has five major duathlon titles to her name, will put up and coming Scottish stars, Craig Dale and James Harrison, through their paces ahead of the World Championships on home soil.
With two treadmills on either side of an exercise bike (to denote the run-bike-run element of this multisport discipline) the talented duathletes, dressed in GE GB Team kit, will demonstrate their incredible levels of endurance as they put in some quality training on top of one of Edinburgh’s most famous landmarks; all set against the stunning backdrop of the capital’s cityscape.

On the weekend of 03 – 05 September, Edinburgh will stage the 2010 GE ITU Duathlon World Championships, the highest-level competition in the sport’s annual calendar and the most prestigious duathlon competition ever staged in the UK.
Up to 1,000 of the world’s best Elite and Age Group duathletes will descend on Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park to compete for six World Championship titles, 27 Age Group gold medals and a total prize fund of 75,000 Euros (for the Elite competition).
The Elite, U23 and Age Group athletes will all compete over a standard duathlon course consisting of a 10km run followed by a 40km cycle and a 5km run, all completed as a continuous activity. The Edinburgh course will consist of multiple laps around Holyrood Park and Arthur’s Seat making it one of the most challenging ever used for an ITU Duathlon World Championships.
The GE 2010 Edinburgh ITU Duathlon World Championships offers the perfect opportunity for Edinburgh residents, visitors to the city and running, cycling and multisport enthusiasts to watch the best duathletes in the world demonstrate their incredible levels of endurance and tactical ability. British duathletes have an impressive record in major competitions, boasting many medalists at both World and European Championships in recent years. In the last four years, Scotland’s Catriona Morrison, from Broxburn near Edinburgh, has garnered five major titles to her name, including ITU Duathlon World Champion (2006), ETU Duathlon European Champion (2007 – Edinburgh – and 2009 – Budapest) and ITU Long Distance Duathlon World Champion (2007 and 2008).
About James Harrison – Newhaven Harbour Triathlon Club
Age – 26. James is a registered nurse in the intensive care unit at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. He competed in his first triathlon in May 2003 and first raced as a Great Britain Age Group athlete in 2006

About Craig Dale – Edinburgh University Triathlon Club
Age – 23. Craig is a fourth-year medical student at Edinburgh University
He has competed in triathlon for eight years but has limited experience of duathlon competition. In 2009, Craig became Scottish Age Group Sprint Triathlon Champion. He managed a second place in the Long Distance Championships and third at the Standard Distance Championships the same year. He also came 15th at the GB Elite Championships at Strathclyde Park and at the same location he finished third in the Strathclyde Park Triathlon to qualify for the 2009 Gold Coast ITU Triathlon World Championships in the 18-24yrs category. He ended his 2009 season with 36th in his Age Group in Australia. In 2007, he completed Ironman UK.
