PETER PAN/JM BARRIE: [11am Thurs 29 April] – Photo call marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of celebrated Scottish author and playwright, JM Barrie, with John Shedden (star of Home to Neverland, a Splinters Production on Barrie) in costume, with a selection of Barrie texts and memorabilia, including presentation copies from Geraldine McCaughrean (author of official sequel, Peter Pan in Scarlet).
Celebrated Edinburgh-based painter Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, patron of this year’s sale will also attend. Dame Blackadder has donated three popular etchings to the sale.
REFORMATION: [11am Tues 11 May] - Photo call marking 450th anniversary of the Scottish Reformation with Rt Revd Bill Hewitt, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Cardinal Keith Patrick O’Brien and the Bishop of Edinburgh, Rt Revd Brian Smith, at the presentation of a signed first edition of Harry Reid’s new history of the Reformation. Kathy Galloway, head of Christian Aid Scotland, will also be present.
‘The Christian Aid book sale epitomises literacy and education, providing a poignant setting in which to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the Scottish Reformation and its emphasis on the centrality of the Word,’ said Dr Reid.

1. The annual Christian Aid Book Sale at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church, George Street, Edinburgh opens at 10am on Saturday 8 May (closed Sun 9 May). It continues during Christian Aid Week from Mon 10 to Fri 14 May, open 10am – 3.30pm with late night opening until 7pm on Thurs 13 May. Built in 1784 in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic New Town the church is famed for its unusual elliptical shape, and magnificent ceiling in the style of Robert Adam.
