VISITORS to this year’s Open Championship can experience a flavour of Fife’s Year of Culture through a snapshot of Celebrating Fife 2010 performances.
With around 250,000 spectators from around the world expected to attend the Open Championship, Fife Council and its partners are taking the chance to showcase, in the Welcome to Fife Pavilion, some of the hidden gems whose talents have contributed to the success of Celebrating Fife 2010.
The Welcome to Fife Pavilion will be situated adjacent to the Hospitality Area in the Official Tented Village and is open to everyone attending the Open.
The Pavilion is a fantastic opportunity for visitors to experience Fife ‘in miniature’ through a range of displays and demonstrations highlighting Fife’s unique environment and distinctive cultural identity and heritage.
Visitors can look forward to daily cookery demonstrations and live workshops from an array of Fife businesses.
The Poetry Corner will feature a line up of poets from StAnza: Scotland ’s International Poetry Festival, making guest performances throughout the week.
Over a dozen live-wire performances will include StAnza’s Poet in Residence, Kei Miller, who makes his appearance on Tuesday, 13 July.
Topping the bill on Thursday is Kevin Cadwallander, who does a fantastic impersonation of a lovelorn Dalek.
Angela McSeveney takes to the stage on the Friday, with Anna Crowe and Eddie Gibbons heading the line-up on Saturday.
There will also be a sneak preview from this year’s Auchtermuchty Traditional Music Festival which takes place in August.
King Creosote will give an unplugged session, while the Sarah Hendry School of Dance entertain with Highland Dancing.
Leader of Fife Council’s Administration, Councillor Peter Grant, said: “The Open is one of the world’s biggest annual sporting events.
As well as the obvious boosts it brings to our tourism industry it offers a fantastic opportunity for us to show the world what Fife has to offer.
“The Welcome to Fife Pavilion brings together Fife Council, local businesses and public sector partners to let visitors from far and near see what a great place Fife is to live, work, visit and invest”.
Eleanor Livingstone, StAnza’s festival director, said: “StAnza 2010 was such a success, it’s great to have an opportunity to invite back to St Andrews some of this year’s most popular poets.
“I’m sure they’ll engage visitors to the Welcome to Fife Pavilion with the same mixture of wit, charm and lyricism which delighted audiences in March. They may even attempt a hole in one with a poem about golf.”
