Media Release: Edinburgh nail technician wins UK Nail Champion of the Year

AN Edinburgh nail technician has won the UK Nail Champion of the Year at the Professional Beauty Show in London.

Elzbieta Loszczyk (28) who lives in Edinburgh, competed against nail technicians from throughout the UK to win the trophy, which was presented to her earlier this week in London, along with an award for coming first in the ‘free form sculpture’ event.

Elzbieta and her husband Lukasz, opened Essensse Beauty Salon on Easter Road in Edinburgh in 2008, offering nail styling, beauty treatments, hairdressing, manual therapy and massage.

Originally from Poland, they launched their business thanks to a loan from the Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) which helps 18-25 year-olds set up and continue in business.

Nearly 18 months on, Elzbieta has established a reputation as one of the top nail technicians in the UK having won major Scottish and UK competitions for her nail designs.

Last year, at the Scottish Nail Technician of the Year Awards she came first in the category of Top Tech Sculpt and was declared runner-up in the Nail Art Challenge category.

Commenting on her award win, Elzbieta said: “To compete at this level you need to be able to master everything from the latest trends such as 3D and stiletto, to embedded nail art, nail gems, baroque and free-hand sculpting. It’s a really exciting time to be part of such a dynamic, and creative industry and I am delighted to receive such prestigious recognition in the form of this award.”

The husband and wife team have also recently secured the exclusive distribution rights for all Astonishing Nail and Spa products in England and Scotland, and plan to launch an Astonishing Nails Training Academy for young beauticians and nail technicians to learn or refresh their skills.

Commenting, Lukasz said: “We are currently speaking to PSYBT about growth funding which will help with the launch of our new Training Academy which will open in April. We will also be recruiting nail technicians to work alongside Elzbieta as academy trainers. Our ultimate goal is to establish a leading reputation for quality in the UK beauty industry.”

Simon Holden, PSYBT regional chair in Edinburgh, added: “Lukasz and Elzbieta are very determined and driven young people. Since opening Essensse this business has grown from strength to strength as they attract more customers. They have a truly entrepreneurial flair as they demonstrated in securing the sole distribution rights for Astonishing Nails and I’m sure this business will be a huge success too.”
